Travel Info Where can I exchange American currency for Canadian currency and what docs do i need to get back into USA? Travel Tips You can exchange US dollars at any bank in Canada or just use your ATM card to withdraw Canadian cash from an ATM. You have to have a photo ID AND either a birth certificate or voter's registration card to get back into the US. Check out http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbp... which talks about WHEN a passport will be required. It is not currently required. Source(s): Just returned from a week's vacation in Ontario last week. Other Travel Tips That's funny. I was under the impression that all canadians hated my country. Stay there. Go to any bank and they will exchange the money..you do realize that Canadian money is worth a bit less than American? As far as documents for re-entering the US....I had my driver's license and a certified birth certificate. If you don't have at least your birth certificate you will need visa or passport. Less probs getting back into US than going into Canada..I can verify that! Went through three checkpoints just trying to get into Canada. you'll get the best rate at a bank, but US dollars are widely accepted, you just don't get the best exchange rate. And right now you do not need a passport. You actually wont get the best rate at a bank ( I know .. I work there) .. but dont go to the airport either .. the best rates are from local currecny exchange places .. ususally located in major downtown cities . Just photo ID(licence, passport, citizenship card) to get back into the states (for now) |
