What are the must-see attractions in Quebec City? |
Travel Info What are the must-see attractions in Quebec City? Travel Tips I visitied Quebec City last year and I would suggest that you spend the bulk of your time in the Old City. Place Royal has amazing shopping, but I was just as impressed by the history and the buildings. Now if you have a local contact, ask him or her to refer you to somewhere the locals like to eat. But I say that about any city. Others The Chateau Frontenac Hotel. The Plains of Abraham where the English defeated the French!! Perhaps Mr. Fatsausage hasn't been. I used to live in Montreal and stayed in Quebec City many times. Pls refer to the websites I've enclosed. The Chateau Frontenac Hotel dominates the skyline of the Upper Town, but it is in Place Royale, in the Lower Town, where there are buildings restored from the city's inception in the beginning of the 17th C. The Frontenac is just a hotel with some nice views. The rooms there are small; you can get better accommodation. Up beside the Plains of Abraham, which is just a big empty park, is the Citadel, which was built by the English after they defeated the French in 1763. There is a museum there, which is interesting to visit. You can see most of Quebec City on foot, but If you can rent a car, you could visit Montmorency Falls and the nearby Ile d'Orleans, which has several 17th C. churches and lovely views of the St. Lawrence River. There are a cluster of shopping malls in Ste-Foy towards the bridges across the St-Lawrence. There are some nice motels nearby. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/quebec_city... http://www.bonjourquebec.com/ca-en/quebe... http://www.quebecweb.com/tourisme/quebec... http://www.quebecweb.com/tourisme/quebec... http://www.quebec-travelguide.com/orlean...
