Do you need a passport to go to Canada if you're a U.S. citizen? |
Travel Info I know they're going to require it eventually....I just didn't know if it went into effect yet. Travel Tips Currently? No. (But it can help, as they do pester you at times. If you don't have a passport, a voter registration card can help.) But it is supposed to change by Jan 1, 2007 (that's still up to debate) Others Not until January. im sure you do, just not a visa No, not yet. Last I heard, you'd need one to get back into the States traveling by plane starting in January, but by car it wouldn't start until 2009. You DO need ID and proof of citizenship, though. No not yet George Bush is attempting to get some legislation passed that will require a passport I believe in 2009, hope this helps I am not certain about going to Canada but it might be more important to get back into the US. Ask about both for getting into Canada and back in to the good old USA! officially: NO BUT they are sticky about it sometimes. Sometimes they will let you go across with just a Birth Certificate, sometimes they say you need a passport. Sometimes they let you through with a warning "Go get a passport for next time". |
