My passport has my unmarried name and I'm wanting to visit Canada this week. CAN I??? |
Travel Info The passport is less than 2 years old and my marriage is less than a year. Can I use it to cross the border from Detroit to Canada before the end of March? My Driver's License has my current addy, photo, and name and I've got my voter's registration (though it doesn't have a picture). Will this work if my passport won't? Travel Tips As long as you are not flying there is no problem. If you wish carry your marriage certificate as proof of your name change but actually all you need is a photo id like a drivers license. Starting in 2008 you will need a passport even when driving across the border. you might consider getting an updated passport before then. Others bring your marriage licence, bestt to call canada Immiigfation Long as you aint a Mexican we dont give a chit about canadiens Yes, best to bring a copy of your marriage certificate, that will do the trick. Not only is it OK, but in French speaking Canada (and increasingly among English-speakers) it is customary for married women to retain their maiden names; also because Canada allows non-marrieds to become legal spouses (not to mention gay marrieds who retain birth names) family passports with birth names are common. (PS. Just curious - if you are crossing from Detroit why is this question in the Qu茅bec category?) |
