If I visit Quebec this summer will I have brush up on my french?

Travel Info
I asked this question about Ontario a minuit ago, but I was a bit confused about where I`m going to.

Travel Tips
Yes and no. If you want to take the time to brush up on your french it would be an advantage to you. I would suggest you learn the base words for roads and street signs. Montreal is very picky about signs for some reason. They must be in french. Although some have english on them also but it actually illegal to have a completely english sign in Montreal.

As for resaurants and whatnot a large percentage also speaks english so that you would not have to worry about that.

Make sure you know where you are going. Montreal is quite confusing when it comes to making your way around the city. It would help if you could properly pronounce what area you are going to be visiting. I got lost there one day and the people that worked at Canadian Tire were having a hard time helping us out because the road we were looking for we could not pronounce correctly.

I noticed you also asked the same question about Ontario. Absolutely not. 99% of Ontario speaks english. Ottawa also speaks alot of French but rarely you would be able to find someone in Ottawa who only speaks French.

Best of luck! Have fun!

It would be a good idea...French is spoken there.
I do have a friend there who doesn't speak French, but she is married to someone to someone who does.
good luck
Yes! My Family visited Canada in 2000 and drove through Quebec. There is little English and signs are generally not Bi-lingual.
It isn't necessary, but if you attempt to speak in French, you'll receive better service. Remember, Quebecois is quite different from today's Parisian French. It is a combination of 16th century French, English and Indian languages. When Canadian French movies are shown in France, they come with subtitles. The French laugh at it. It's the French version of hillbilly English.
il faut essayer tu verras bien

a bientot
Noppers. Everyone in Quebec (or most people) are billingual, so you can talk to them in English or French. However it won't hurt to brush up your french, because french is awesome. As is Quebec.

p.s. all signs and stuff are in french, so you might wanna brush up on your french, so you know what the heck your doing.
