No egypt is motherland,
well, Moscow and St. Petersburg are a must. But there's something better. The most ancient city of Russia called Velikiy Novgorod is situated right in between Moscow and St. Pete. Thus you can kill 3 birds with one stone and really enjoy your trip!

Go to Moscow and St. Petersburg but if u will have time to visit Volgograd city also known as Stalingrad (the hero city) u would see the great statue bigger than the Liberty statue in New-York city, and the name of this statue is "Rodina Mama". Volgograd city situate in South part of Russia!
