Contact Immigration Office to find out exactly the time frame. Do not send any money etc., if she is asking you for money, it's definitely a con. Do you know what company is sponsoring her, etc? Find out as much info as you can, all you can do is wait and see if she arrives or not. Good luck!

As far a I know to get a work visa is nearly impossible for Russians, they have to be very important specialists or scientists or win an exchange program and find a company who will accept them or need them and even then, yes, even then it takes some time.... Even to apply and get a tourist visa takes time.
there are different working programs for Russian people to go to US, most of them are fro students. Students can get to US to work pretty easy. However, most of that programs start in May till September, October as far as students are on their vacations. Probably, your Russian lady is trying to get visa for such kind of program.
Let me give you a little advice. Don't plan on meeting your friend in the US. Go there and meet her there and see if you believe she's honest. Hopefully you will have an honest sense of self-evaluation and can see what she is looking for in you. If she's asking for money, drop her like a hot potato. Cons come up with elaborate sob stories, suprisingly quickly, and everyting can be solved by your money.

If she hesitates at getting an official invitation ( izveshcheniya ),she's in it for other motives. Meet her family and see what they're like. Even when you don't speak the language, you can get a feeling for people by their interest and patience.

If you're looking to marry her, you'll be able to bring her to the US later, and work credentials will follow soon after.

And please, keep a little skepticism. If she says she will be here soon, she's either lying or she's already gotten another sucker to pony up the tab.
