Russian Surname? |
Travel Info My great-grandfather's last name, in english, was Zboromirsky. Don't really know anything about his name except it's Russian in origin. I know "sky" is more Polish than Russian, but he was born in Russia. So Any help out there if you know what region his name is from, how popular is this name, what does it mean and how would you spell it in Russian script. Thank you so much if you can add anything. Travel Tips In Russian Script, it is 袟袘袨袪袨袦袠袪小袣袠袡 袟= Z (coming off of, or coming out of) 袘袨袪袨 = boro (the element boron) 袦袠袪 = mir (world or peace) C袣袠袡= sky (Russian suffix of noble origin) Actually -ski is a Polish suffix, -sky is a Russian suffix. This name is not popular at all because if you look at all the phone books in the major cities of the world , this name is very rare. Others well the only thing i can do is to spell it for you Zboromirsky = 小斜芯褉芯屑懈褉褋泻懈泄 / 袟斜芯褉芯屑懈褉褋泻懈泄 (you can't really tell from the English version which one it actually is) im russian Boromir (袘芯褉芯屑懈褉) is an old Slav name (means "peace fighter"). Zboromirsky means that he came from a family of Boromir, so it does not have an exact geographical toponymy. Regarding the ending. If name came directly from Polish to English, it would have a "ski" ending. If it came from Ukrainian, Russian or Polish, but via Russian alphabet (i.e., transliterated in Cyrillic alphabets), then in Latin it can have "ski", "skii", "sky" or "skiy" as an ending - I know because this is the case with my name. |
