Going to St. Petersburg Russia - need to know about vacation packages, hotels, etc.?

My husband and I are planning on visiting St. Petersburg, Russia this August/September and are having trouble finding tours or vacation packages. One of the main focuses we'd like to definately see is anything about the Romanov family. We're open to cruises, or land packages. Has anyone been there? Does anyone have any hotel recommendations? I know I can consult a travel agent, but I'd like to get real suggestions from people who have been there first. Thanks!!
