Travel Info How was the life in Russia under Joseph Stalin in the 1920s and 1930s? Travel Tips It was probably hard because in the 1930s Stalin initiated the Great Purge, a campaign of political repression, persecution and executions that reached its peak in 1937, But Soviet people also benefited from a degree of social liberalization. Females were given an adequate, equal education and women had equal rights in employment, precipitating improving lives for women and families. Source(s): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/joseph_stal... Other Travel Tips BAD! There is a must read book "An American in the Gulag". Stalin killed tens of millions of his own people. Overall life was pretty hard. There wasn't enough food and there were purges. The peasants' land was taken away and made collective ( i.e. government owned). However, there were some positive things as well, such as public education and better health care. SAD!!!! The living standards all over the world in the 1920th were worse than today. And Russia wasn't the worst country. But it was hard to survive as people lived in constant dread of police and authorities. Stalin and his government wanted to improve the economy and made a sacrifice of Russian population. People had to work hard, and still they hardly could meet ends together. Also it was prohibited to protest or have the opposite view on the situation - people could be imprisoned for it. |
