Best currency for russia? |
Travel Info Best currency for russia? Travel Tips I took Dollars the first time - a complete waste of time as you will be ripped off by taxi firms etc if you use them. Any service with a fixed price structure (shops/restaurants/ tourist attractions etc) don't usually accept foreign currency anyway. Take Roubles and a credit card. Most of the time you have to change your Dollars into Roubles, attracting an exchange fee, as nothing is priced in Dollars anyway! Most shops etc only accept Roubles.ruble soon Euro To carry with you? US$, then EU, than Russian Rouble. Allot of people still do business in $ or EU, but you will have to change the currency into Russian Rouble to buy things at the store. Russian economy is booming right now, with billions of oil dollars keeping everything rolling. Used to be the case that US Dollars were wanted more than the Rouble, however, with the boom going on, think maybe the Russian Rouble is now back in favour. US Dollar is always a safe bet in most situations. Try the Moscow Narodney [Narodny] Bank on line website and see if they have any useful information. Certainly in Moscow and St Petersburg there are cash machines: there is no problem in withdrawing money using a Visa debit (or credit) card. Roubles obviously but get them in Russia rather than in advance. No problem with pounds sterling at all or Euros. At least there wasn't when I was there last year. I also changed some Latvian currency. |
