Travel Tips
Rent truly is the defining factor here. Food in Russia is cheap if you prepare it for yourself. I lived in Russia, Moscow even (more expensive) a couple years ago on 425/month and saved 200/month. Food in restaurants can be expensive -- that is, on par with the US prices -- but preparing yourself, it's very cheap. In Moscow and St. Petersburg

On a brief look at the St. Petersburg times (www.sptimes.ru), very high end apts are about 900/month. You can do better than that. You should ask your internship for assistance in finding an apt. One of the best ways to do that is to ask if they know anyone who would like to sponsor a homestay. You stay with a family and pay them rent. Can be quite cheap (300/month or so).

Entertainment, if you live wisely, doesn't have to be that much. You can get in to the Hermitage for cheap as a student. Amazing theater, if you buy it 10 minutes before the performance starts from a scalper -- 3 dollars. World-class cello concerts (again, tickets from scalpers) -- 50 cents. But Western-style movies is going to set you back 10 dollars. Just have to be smart about it.

Great and cheap metro.

Re: the internship, you should ask someone in your industry and check its web trail. Who does it work with? Ask for references.

Part time jobs: you can teach English, but St. Petersburg also has a good market for teachers with certification. If you don't have certification, it's harder to get a job. If you do have certification, you can get 40 dollars an hour to teach private students. I'd advertise nonetheless.

Good luck and have fun! It's a wonderful opportunity.

Probably. Depends on how you live.
It depends on you, your wishes, and how you are going to spend your time.
But if you are talking about survive it's more than enough. Food in Russia really cheap compare to service (clothes, cars, night club, etc.)

Russian me
if they provide you with housing, 800 is enough to live, but if you have to pay housing on your own, it's not enough, 'cause rent in St. Petersburg is pretty high.
Once you get there, try to find cheaper stores, malls are much more expensive especially in the senter.
Good luck
It depends on where you'll live (sharing with others, housing provided by the employer etc.), your Russian proficiency and what you're ready to do as a part-time job. If your Russian is relatively good I guess you can always give English lessons or work as an interpreter.

Sorry, I don't know about current situation with vegetarian food. In the summer it's normally easy to get by on local produce. Do you eat dairy products?

Anyway, I think living in St. Petersburg will be a very exciting experience for you.
800$ is not hard to get them
