How well do you understand other slavic languages? |
Travel Info For all the Russian speakers here. Kak khorosho ponimaete Srpskii yazjk? Polskii? Chekskii? U menya drugi srbskie i ya ponimayu, mozhet bjt 1/3, o chyom oni govoryat. No, ochevidno, ya ne govoryu svobodno po Russkii. Kak khorosho vij ponimaete ikh? Travel Tips Obviously we understand Ukrainian and Belorussian the best, since they are both part of the Eastern branch of the Slavic language family. Further than that, things usually get harder... For me, Bulgarian is the next most understandable, at least in reading. Because they use the same alphabet, I don't have to guess at how the different letters are read (unlike the languages which use the Latin alphabet and have special characters like carets, accent marks, etc.) Serbian and its related languages would have to go next. Finally we have Czech and Polish, where I can understand only some words. For some reason Polish seems the most bizarre to me, even though geographically Poland is closer than the Czech Republic. They just have so many words with "dz" in them so I get easily confused. Czech sounds very melodic to me, but I can only understand the most basic words like "mother", "death", "language" and the like. This is all from my personal experience, other Russians will probably have different opinions on the matter... Others For me the other Slavic languages is a "deep forest". Some words may sound the same as russian words, but they are not, and I don't understand anything. To be honest, I envy people like you, because you guys can speak and understand russian language, at least a little bit, but we, russians, can't understand yours. Lucky you! Kogda chitaju to khorosho, kogda slushaju to plokho http://www.nemtyrev.narod.ru if u want to learn better russian lang. I will certainly recommend you to come to Crimea State Medical University, Ukraine. Because in this University, all the foreign students mostly from Malaysia can speak Russian fluently. Well, I understand Ukrainian, of course, since few members of the family speak it. I can also, if needed, get a jist of what is being said in Bulgarian, Polish and Bosnian. And by "jist" I mean about 50%-60% of what is being said. Hope that helps! Dasha from Russia |
