So what stops would you recommend I make on the trans-siberian express from Moscow to Beijing? |
Travel Info I have about 3-4 weeks on the train and want to stop occasionally and see a bit of Russia and Mongolia =o) Cheers!! Travel Tips I would recommend Yaroslavl (port on the Volga, very historical), Irkutsk (major city in the region), Ulan Ude (the buddhist centre of Russia, with a nearby TIbetan monastery)and Lake Baikal region. If you're a history buff, I'd stop in Ekaterinaburg where the last of the czars were shipped off to (and Boris Yeltsin is from here). Maybe Vladivostock because of its military and strategic importance on the Pacific. The only place I can think of in Mongolia is Ulan Bator. If you can, I'd jump off in a few villages that look interesting en route (not sure if you have to have all places listed on your visa forms). Source(s): http://www.geographia.com/russia/trasib0... Other Travel Tips I've taken many long bus/train trips and settled on the principle of "no plan is the best plan." Stay loose and if a spot looks interesting, check it out. Don't worry about completing the trip because the stops you make are far more interesting and memorable than the fact of completing the trip. |
