Why are simple pop groups like Modern Talking more popular in the eastern bloc? |
Travel Info Is it becuase the simple lyrics appeal to the native population? Travel Tips i think it's because they had nothing else to listen too. i know that in the former soviet union people would go crazy for the new songs since they never heard those kind before. they could only listen to songs sung by the military most of the time. that sucks! :) and no, it wasn't that they were stupid! Others Are these "simple minds" really still around ? I don't believe so. You should check this question on the "Yahoo Answers Germany" site (see bottom) Well, Scorpions were also pretty popular, so was the Bony-M, and I would not venture to say it is because of the lyrics. Modern Talking, Scorpions, Roxette were all English-singing but European groups. Hence, Soviet Union and Eastern Europe had more access to those, could invite them over to perform etc. Pet Shop Boy, the British gay duo was pretty popular too, as far as I remember. Bony-M's were exotic...and they sang Rasputin, hence warmed up to Russian pretty quickly and there was a definite appeal.
