How can I proceed to visit Russian orphanages?

Travel Info
I'm planning to travel to Russia later this year to hopefully visit/volunteer in orphanages. Can anyone advise me how to proceed? Who should I contact, and what are the laws and personal requirements? Any information will be appreciated, thanks.

You can speak to the Russian Embassy, first of all. They will provide you with all the information on this topic.

See this web site: http://www.adopt-in-russia.ru/

Of course, everything depends on the city you are going to visit. I would advice you to search the web for the orphanages in a particular city.
As i understood from your question, you are not going to adopt a child, but you want to help a child as a volunteer. That's right to go to the Russian Embassy. As a volunteer you won't be asked much, only common documents will be required, but if you are going to adopt a baby, see the above link.

I really appreciate your wishes and i hope everyone will start helping children who are in orphanages all around the globe. They really need our help.

Best of all to you!

they don't need volunteers or people teasing visiting. How about adopting one? Now that would help.
Start by contacting the Russian Embassy7
With a low birth rate, orphanage are a thing from the past. Many russian couple adopt orphan in russia so you won't see many baby for adoption.

The larges orphanage are near the chechnyan border, you might find many chechnyan baby for adoption, thousand are sent to russia every months.
I volunteer with one of the orphanages through my local embassy in Moscow. They have orphanages of all age groups in Moscow. Sometimes we bake stuff with them or do other things, but I mostly play sports with the boys, and they beat me in futbol very often.

They are always very excited to see us. The orphanage we go to is more like a school than anything, and we are only allowed to come during certain hours during the weekend. You should check with your countries embassy in Russia. If your country doesn't know anything, I have seen the British and American embassies volunteer at the orphanages.
