Chernobyl tourism? |
Travel Info i want to visit chernobyl, my family came from there, and i have always wanted to visit the city. but apart from learning Ukrainian and visas what **** should i prepare for the radiation? i see homeless old men still living there and scienisits on TV just wearing dust masks, is that all i need? Travel Tips All you need is a licensed tour company to take you. You will not be allowed inside the containment zone without someone that is licensed by the Ukrainian government to take you there, and government soldiers will field scan you for radiation upon leaving. As long as you follow the rules of the tour company, it is safe. The radiation levels there are about the same as most major cities, such as Paris. It is an interesting tour, but expensive. See here for an good information on the tours: http://www.tourkiev.com/chernobyl.php... Source(s): I live in Kyiv Other Travel Tips SOUNDS NICE.. I hope you're not being funny but I don't think anyhting there could still hurt you on a visit. People who lived there and their kids still suffer from lingering illnesses though. Check out this woman's website. She is a photographer who rides her motorcycle around Chernobyl and takes pictures. The left side of her web page has all her photos and journeys through Chernobyl. I don't know if this will answer any of your questions but it can't hurt to check it out. http://www.angelfire.com/extreme4/kiddof... the background radiation level in the contaminated zone is currently lower than London. The main hazard is from either breathing in or ingesting dust, or tracking it out of the contaminated area on your clothing. If you are interested I have a disposable NBC suit for sale at a reasonable price. I also have available a dosimeter that will tell you the dose you have received. Email me via my profile for details. i have been to Pripyat and the contaminated zone and it was quite surreal standing in a Soviet city 13 years after the fall of the Soviet Union. There were row upon row of MI-24's and BMP-1's and I wanted to take one away with me but the guards wouldnt let me despite me offering them $500 and all the cigarettes I had with me!! learn russian, take $ and you will illegal enter to Chernobyl zone......good luck,be care there are wild animals in street even bears which migrate to there, because people live only in villages which far from Pripyat'... |
