Russian Holiday??

Travel Info
What are some normal foods to bake like dessert wise for russian holiday and what do russians celebrate do they do christmas?

Travel Tips
Russians have an Orthodox Christmas on 7th January but unless you are religious (which most modern Russians aren't) it's not a big deal). New Years Eve is a big deal though. They eat and drink loads (salads, meat, fish, bread, sweets and fruit and of course vodka. There is a traditional porridge type of dessert, with honey and poppy seeds but I lived there for a couple of years and never saw it. Russian desserts in general are not very good. Mostly ice cream, fruits and they are very big on garish, massive shop-bought cakes and sweets.
The next biggest celebration in Russia is probably International Woman's Day (8th March). Men buy flowers and presents for the women in their lives and cook a meal (the only day of the year a Russian man will cook).
