Is it safe to travel on the train through western Ukrain?

Travel Info
I'm just asking because eastern part of Hungary has many socially disadvantaged racially and culturally different and undereducated therefore violent and ignorant people(gipsies) living there and one has to avoid them on the train when travelling there. Is it so on the other side of the border as well?

Travel Tips
I just recently came back from Ukraine after spending a year there. I lived in Kharkov in East Ukraine and Volochisk in West Ukraine. I raveled many times by train. I didn't have any problems. Here are some tips:

1) As you know there are 3 different accommodations. 1st, 2nd and 3rd class. 1st class is expensive and a waste of money. You can buy all 4 spots in second class compartment. But if you can't afford it then make sure you get a bottom bunk. This way you can put your luggage under you.

2) If you do get a compartment for yourself. You should have a little rope to tied your door shut while you sleep.

3) I haven't seen any gypsies on train but I've seen them in Ukraine. It's mostly professional thieves who work on train. I've never been robbed but I've heard of it.

4) Don't worry about mafia, police, etc. People don't bother Americans because they know we come to spend money. They will overcharge us though.

5) Keep away from Gypsies though. They are professional thieves.

It is very safe as long as you have a body guard.

Don't be afraid. It is quite safe especially if you are an American. They will like you then. Don't say you are from Russia
You are eastern european so you wouldnt be of much value to a hostage taker compared with someone who is british , french , german etc.

you should be safe.

and do not listen to the poster above, she has obviously no clue of travelling around eastern europe,

do NOT say you are american other wise you will be kidnapped tortured and shot
Why not? I heard it's very pretty. (Any season) So good luck and enjoy.

No don't afraid just keep your wallet passport in safe. Maybe they be nice to you but niceenough to steal your money. This happened to many people.
