Does anybody know anything more about this russian coat? |
Travel Info I have this huge heavy russian coat. I would love to know more about it. I know that its pretty old and I know for a fact that it's russian in origin. Picture located here: http://home.comcast.net/~punk.rocker/coa... This coat is very heavy and wool. The inside looks almost like a patchwork of scrap pieces. It is double breasted and buttons all the way up to the neck. anyone have any ideas? Travel Tips if it's really old you might want to look around for an antique dealer who can help you with what you want to know. looks like a real warm coat. wool is scratchy but very warm. Others What exactly would you like to know? There must be labels anyway - you could copy the letters if they're in Russian - I'd decifer them for you. Very strange coat, I think it is from Sviet times...I doubt if it had special lable or smth like this...such coats were very popular times ago...At the first glance to that pic I thought it looked like what Russian called "褎褍褎邪泄泻邪"(fufaika), but it is a bit long...why you are so interested??? By the color and general looks of it I鈥檇 say it is a so called 褕懈薪械谢褜 (shinel) , a military wear. But the fur collar for a soldier is out of the question. It might have been sewn on manually or it was a version for high ranking officers whose tender bodies were especially looked after for the good of the country. p.s.: by the way do your computers digest Cyrillic letters? And believe me it's not a "褎褍褎邪泄泻邪 (fufaika)", of that I'm sure. intuition I believe the material for underlining is "褑懈谐械泄泻邪" (a special brand of sheep. So the English name is mouton, which does not say much, because mouton means "sheep" in French). Often used in the military for winter hats and coats. Although the coat does not look like a regular trench coat ("褕懈薪械谢褜"), it could be either a coat for Northern parts of Russia or for low-ranking officers (again, does not look like that) it looks like an ordinary coat. nothing special Russian (or Soviet)about it. for sure no associations with the Soviet or Russian military garb. i even doubt that it was made in Russia, though it could be brought from Russia. for me it looks like a "very-very warm coat to visit very-very cold places" made somewhere in the US or Canada. |
