I would like to visit a friend in Ukraine,what do I need ? |
Travel Info What travel documents do I need to travel and visit a friend in Kiev Ukraine ? Where would I find out such information ? Can I just take my passport and fly there with a round trip ticket ? How safe is it there for american tourist ? What is the best time to fly ? What is the best airline to get a good rate with ?I am in Indiana and would probably fly out of Indianapolis.I am told that my friend would find me an apartment to stay in. How much could I expect to pay ? What is their culture like ? Family Relations ? What are their marriage views ? What is the wifes role in the family and how is it viewed ? Are they of old culture or are they liberal as in the US ? And if you don't look 'white', then you may encounter some trouble as a result of your looks. Probably the biggest obstacle you will face there will be language. Most people there don't speak English. But in terms of culture and family relationships, they are not that different from people in USA. Perhaps many young women there wear clothing that is more revealing than what is normal in USA. And perhaps some people are more likely to strike up conversations with strangers than what is normal in USA. Divorce is just as common in Ukraine as it is in USA. And perhaps this is something you should worry about. Will your good-looking wife want to stay with you when she doesn't have to any more? And will she take advantage of you in terms of alimony, child custody, and child support? If you want to have a secure marriage, then my advice to you is to look for a wife in asia and not in eastern europe, where divorce is rampant and people don't believe much in family values. Others are you liberal oh fine So it depends on the person not their nationality so you have to know more about your friend if you are considering a marriage Ukraine is not an expensive country you can stay there at an affordable cost . You need your passport and some additional documents may be but I think passport will be enough . You should ask a person who lives there or stayed there for a long time to get right information If you are a US citizen you do NOT need a visa to travel to Ukraine. Your passport will suffice. You are asking a lot of questions! Ask your friend what the cost of an apartment will be. You will be able to use your ATM card in Kiev as well as your visa and MasterCard. The culture is a mix between Russian and European, but most people are probably somewhat conservative compared to the US. A lot of the beautiful women you see parading themselves on the streets in Kiev are prostitutes. I would dress somewhat more modestly so that your friend's family knows you are not one of those! It wasn't so long ago that most people under the old Soviet culture thought "all American women are sluts." Keep your dignity at all time, be cheerful, modest and friendly. If your friend has a drinking problem, run 1000 miles an hour in the opposite direction. Do not leave yourself vulnerable in situations, where your friend cannot be around to protect you. In other words, don't allow yourself to be alone in the company of other males. |
