Was Sakhalin originally part of Japan? |
Travel Info Was Sakhalin originally part of Japan? Travel Tips well, it's a complicated question. Russians and Japanese started exploring the island at the same time - in 17th century. since then it was ever a disputed territory. the first formal regulation was made in 1855 when Sakhalin was declared a joint possession of Russia and Japan. In 1875 Japan gave its rights of possession to Russia in exchange for Northern Kuril Islands. after Russo-Japanese war (1904-05) Russia had to give up the Southern Sakhalin (not entire island). Soviet Union took it back in 1945 but a formal treaty never was signed to regulate Russian-Japanese borders in this region. nowadays Japan does not claim its rights on Sakhalin, though it's unhappy with the fact that Russia after WWII annexed Southern Kurils and still keeps them. Others Maybe not originally, but between 1907 and 1945 the southern part of it belonged to Japan. After faild war of 1905 year it was given to Japanes, but it was return after secon world war......so they cant get it,becouse its Russian land, wich was not in Japan ever time..... Japan wants it all the time, but it is Russian land Why is this in the section "Russia"? Just wondering. 鈺? not all of it, just the Southern part, but they still want to get back at least Kulilskie ostrova good luck i lived on Sakhalin island for 5 years |
