Are russians still living in terror nowadays? |
Travel Info More information pls. Travel Tips No, at least not the ordinary people. Journalism is a dangerous job anywhere, and I don't think the situation with journalists getting killed in Russia is worse than in other places. It might seem that way because the murder of Politkovskaya has gotten a lot of publicity. If you talk about the fear of getting mugged, killed, etc., I wouldn't classify that as living in terror. It's not like the government does these things. Of course, as in Western countries, there is the fear of terrorist attacks by Chechens and such, but there haven't been any terrorist acts recently. Others Yes, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has been killing off anyone who disagrees with him. Putin is currently working with David Duke (former KKK leader) in Moscow planning a propaganda campaign for his upcoming holocaust against the Jews. It depends who you ask. Single elderly women (there are a lot of them because men die an average 8 years earlier) who live in cities -- undoubtedly they do live with an everyday fear of getting mugged, robbed or worse ... I have a friend who is a journalist in Russia. When she started to live in fear due to her job -- a close colleague was found murdered -- she decided to change subject matter. Now instead of about crime in high places, she writes articles for a "women's magazine". She does not live in fear any more. I would say that hers was quite the normal reaction for anyone in Russia who is "living in terror" and young enough (psychologically) to change the situation. Friends who live in Russia |
