What are the pros and cons of living in Sacramento or San Diego, CA (or surrounding area)? |
Travel Info What are the pros and cons of living in Sacramento or San Diego, CA (or surrounding area)? Travel Tips The central valley is hot in the summer and can be extremely foggy in the winter. But in the summer, a breeze from a break in the mtns cools things off nicely. At high temp can be over 110 in the summer and visibility in the winter can be as bad as seeing 1 white line at a time. On the good side, housing is much cheaper than on the coast and Sacramento is right between the mountains and the coast so either is easy to visit. Elk Grove is a booming town near Sacto now but it was about 2000 when I was in HS there. The weather is nicer in San Diego and there are the usual coastal things to do. The cost of living and housing are high. Mountains like the Sierras are much further away. There is a very strong influence from people coming in from Mexico. There are nice beaches and crowded freeways. It is not far to LA. I never lived in SD, but my father was stationed there for awhile there during WWII. I hope this helps. Lots of pros and cons. I'd much prefer to live in Eureka along the northern California coast, but jobs are an issue. Others The weather is San Diego is milder. Sacramento gets long stretches of 100 degree heat in the summer. Real Estate prices have skyrocketed in both areas, so the cost of a new home may blow your socks off. Jobs in Sacramento tend to mostly be State government, and the wages are only moderate. For higher paying jobs, one must make the 70 minute drive into San Francisco everyday If I had a choice, I think I would go into San Diego Sacto is way hot in the summer. San Diego has as close to a perfect climate as you can find in the 48 states. Housing in San Diego is very high. More recreational opportunities in San Diego. Sacramento is more of a "cow town" than San Diego. While Sacramento has significant traffic issues it has more of a country feeling than San Diego. Pros for living in Sacramento are as follows: Less expensive housing costs. Close to Lake Tahoe for skiing. Close to San Franscisco Many waterways accessible for boating, wakeboarding etc. Thanks, Kevin http://www.kevinscolastico.com I moved to sacramento from san diego in 2001 and it suks here in sacramento. No ocean, no beaches along any of the rivers and hotter then hell here but I do constuction and the wages are much higher here. Funny thing is, there is a great night life here but not much else good to say about it. |
