What is the music scene like in Sacramento California? |
Travel Info I am considering going to UC Davis next year and being close to live music is a big deal for me. I am wondering hat the music scene is like in Sacramento. Are there a lot of shows? Are there a lot of venues? (preferably smaller ones). What type of shows are there? Anything helps! Thank you! Travel Tips Its ok, not as great as probably LA, NY or even San Fran. But good thing is you are close to San Francisco to see music. There are a few places that routinly have live music, the Powerhouse (Folsom), The Boardwalk (Orangevale) and the Distillery (downtown), Old Ironsides (downtown). There are more, but those are the ones known for live music. Every Friday in downtown Sac local bands play live music in the Ceaser Chavez Park throughout the spring and summer. Sometimes somewhat bigger names are there... Others I'm a lot older than you, so I guess I'm "old school." If you're into older stuff, try the Torch Club (an institution among Sac bars) on 15th between I & J for the blues. Also, there's Harlow's on J around 26th or 27th. The Palms Playhouse in Winters (15 miles down the road from Davis and for decades located in Davis before moving a few years ago) offers an eclectic mix of everything from rock to blues to folk to jazz to country. They occasionally get some really big names there. In addition, there are Freeborn Hall (you'll probably see more current stuff there) and the Mondavi Center on the Davis campus. And in downtown Davis you can catch more current acts at the G Street Pub. |
