Davis, California: Your thoughts?

Berekley wannabe. 26 square miles surrounded by reality.

Stream of consciousness: charming, clean, small town-like but with more diversity of food and stores than other similar sized towns in the Valley (due to more upscale buyers). University focused. I have the impression (from relatives and friends who live there) that there are strong neighborhoods - people know each other and watch after one another's kids. Lots of trees. Hot in the summer. Outdoorsy. Easy to get to the mountains for backpacking. Easy to get to the river for rafting, fishing, kayaking or to the delta for motor boating.
Great place to raise a family. Not a great place to be single (unless you're a student).
I'm a city person so I wouldn't want to live there but I can see why a lot of poeple might.
I live here and i love it!!! It is a cute little town.It is has lots of bikes and it has tons of people downtown! Everybody knows everybody and there is of course the farmers market which happens twice a week at a park in the middle of Davis. Here they sell all kinds of fruit, bread and they have popcorn, a carrosel, and water that shoots up from the ground for little kids to jump in. It is really a great place to have your kids grow up. There is so many good things in ths town including around 7 colorful elementary schools with good teachers and playgrounds. Then the kids move up into one of the 3 junior high schools which all have some of the highest test scores in the state. Then to DHS (Davis High School) which has a very diverse population of people and extremely intelligent teachers. Considering this is a college town most of the people who live here are very educated and liberal. This makes our town fun and loose but safe. We are able to ride to the movies or lunch because you can ride your bike to anywhere in Davis based on how small it is. Even though this is a really great place for kids i don't think adults like it as much. At first it is fun and nice to know such a small community...but then you seem to need more than what a little town offers. Such as: It gets really hot in the summer and really cold in the winter, we have no hills except the fake ones made around rainbow city and we have barely any stores to buy clothes or anything besides your basic food and living needs. I love Davis and have loved growing up in it, but i think as i grow so should my enviro ment. I don't think i will stay in Davis much longer so I can live my life but i may come back to give my kids the childhood that i had.
My life in Davis!
Nice little college town
