Why are the houses so cheap in Texas?

I was browsing through houses under Yahoo real estate in San Antonio because my husband and I might move there for his job. I was so amazed how much the cost of housing are! 4 bedroom/2 1/2 bath, almost 2,000 sqf and really nices houses!! For those texan residents, may I ask why they are so cheap?

My family and I live in Texas. We can't afford a house. I wish I could find the cheap ones your talking about. It's really depressing. What state are you from? Just wondering

The cost of housing is cheaper, because the wages are a lot less down here then in other parts of the country!
cause its the best state period
Cause no body wants to live there!
1) They have no basements
2) Insulation is generally nil (although newer houses insulate for coolness in the house)
3) Furnaces are cheaper and mimimally used.
4) They plant for grass the stuff that we kill for weed in the north
5) Who would want to live in Texas?
Houses are cheap in Texas because the wages are low, including the labor cost of putting up a house!
