Mahnke Park is up and coming you can get relatively lower cost homes and fix them up. Alamo Heights is very expensive as is Sontera or the "Reagan". The Southwest side by Palo Alto by the infamous railroad tracks is up and coming as is I10 and Foster Rd. Both areas have very nice homes, but are surrounded by not so nice homes. Most people rave about the Northside and Northeast side. How much are you willing to spend. I live in Burning Tree and the houses here average 85,000 for a 1200 sq ft home and 125,000 for a 1800 sq ft. That's average in SA. More expensive would be Stone Oak and Alamo Heights where average houses are $350,000 and upward. King Williams is also very expensive but the homes look alot like Mahnke Park. Mahnke Park is centrally located near the zoo, but the schools are awful, so let your kids go to private school!

The further south you go, San Antonio ISD, South San ISD, Edgewood (infamously bad), the less likely your kids will get a good education. Not because their teachers are bad, quite the contrary, but because the kids come from homes where education is not precident.

I really don't know what neighborhoods to reccomend per se (It really depends what you're looking for and how much you're willing to spend. You can get more for your money here then say, California, but real estate is growing rapidly here so it reeeally depends.)

If anything check mysanantonio.com and look under Real Estate. You're bound to find some helpful links there.

You're going to love it here; It's a really great city :)
Boerne it is west of SA
Neu Braunfels
I moved down here a year ago and was told to stay out of the southside of town. I drive around a lot for work, and there are parts of the southside like 37/military that seem okay. Personally, I like the North Central area of town (410 to 1604). Out by seaworld has a lot of nice areas also. Anything up on 1604 (bulverde to I10) is very nice.
