Why is San Antonio, TX better to vacation than Houston,TX? |
Travel Info Wanted to know why people prefer San Antonio over Houston for vacation. Travel Tips There are a couple of other things not mentioned in the other responses. First is the San Antonio Missions National Park...really four old Spanish Missions. All are still active Catholic parishes so the inside is run by the church. The National Park Service runs the grounds and it has a visitor center at Mission San Jose and a great 20 minute film (free) that explains the Spanish Colonial system and how the San Antonio Missions fit in. (If there are any Tish Hinojosa fans, she is the voice of the female lead/singer in the film.) The Alamo is not a part of the National Park. It is run buy the Daughters of the Republic of Texas for the state. If you stay downtown, you will be amazed at how many of the attractions you can get to with an easy walk or trolley ride. San Antonio is a very walkable visit. From the Mexican Market/ on the west end of downtown to HemisFair Plaza/Tower of the America's on the other end, you will find lots to do. As long as it isn't a hot, August Day, you should have a great time. (I live here...but go to Houston with our daughter at least once a year for a Major League baseball fix and a trip to Galveston.) Others I live in San Antonio, and Ive been to Houston, and frankly, I would NEVER want to live there, and I try to avoid it when all necessary. I even had my worst airport experiences in Houston! The traffic is horrific, and I guess it is fine if you enjoy a fast paced busy metropolitan city, but frankly I cant stand it, and if you are looking for the beauty in a vacation spot, Houston, is not the answer!! San Antonio to "me" is kinda of a laid back place (besides all of the partying;) Because San Antonio has a riverwalk, the Alamo, the Ripley's Believe it or Not museum, and many other historical things. Houston... well, Houston has pollution! No, not really =] I live in between the two basically, I live in Brenham, so both aren't really far away and I spend time at both. Houston has A LOT to do, but San Antonio has a better atmosphere, you know what I mean? Like, there's the giant observation tower, Hemisphere Tower, there's the cool little trollies that zoom people around, there's just a whole lot of CULTURE and historical places. I mean, don't get me wrong, Houston is really cool and I love going there, it just can't match San Antonio in tourism. I live in between the two in Brenham, Texas, and have been to both many times. San Antonio and Houston both have alot to see and do but the main draw back to Houston is the congestion and traffic. I would never go to Houston just for a vacation. I have relatives there so its kind of hard for me to avoid H-Town. Well Houston will drive you crazy....it is way way to BIG! lots to do but u can get in trouble there..........SanAntonio is much better |
