Travel Tips
Probably about half speak Spanish, but among those people, a good number of them are bilingual. Not speaking Spanish myself, I was seldom unable to communicate.

Rent is extremely cheap. Downtown is nice, but it's very touristy. I used to live downtown, and I got tired of the fact that every hangout/bar/whatnot was packed with tourists -- no locals' joints. Southtown, as it's called (King William neighborhood) is a little more my style, as far as that goes.

Pros: Traffic is actually pretty good compared to most places, there are plenty of good places to eat, there's lots of Hispanic culture to enjoy, weather in the winter is mild, and you can live there on relatively little money.

Cons: Outside downtown, San Antonio is grimier than many cities. Along about any arterial street, the utility lines are not buried, there are lots of streamers and huge ugly signs for businesses, relatively few sidewalks, poorly maintained aging strip malls, etc. In other words, city beautification is sorely missing outside San Antonio's cute little downtown. You have to drive everywhere -- there's no meaningful transit system, the city is VERY spread out with low density, and the sidewalks are (as I mentioned) not there. City government services aren't very good.

Others
Yes it has good weather; the cost of living is reasonable, the down town area is very nice, and more than 50% of the population speaks Spanish.
I moved here 6 years ago from California, San Antonio is very green with lots of trees. The weather is very hot (it is the humidity rather than just heat). Some days is it actually too hot to go into the pool believe it or not. This year it was still about 80 until late November. The housing is still very affordable to rent and to buy.
Downtown is lovely and we do have a beautiful river and riverwalk which has shops and restaurants all along the river.
I would say about 70% speak Spanish. There is lots to do and we are very close the the hill country, lakes and other rivers. The coast is about 3 hrs away and we go quite often just for the day down to Padre Island and Port Aransas. The traffic can get really bad, especially at rush hour, I do not think the road planners kept up with the population growth.
It is a great place to live, we also have Sea World, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and 2 water parks.
