Going to San MArcos, Texas does anyone have any tips about the city, besides the outlet mall.?

Travel Info
I plan to go to the Zoo in San Antonio for one day only anything else close by that might be worth it.

Travel Tips
I love San Marcos. Austin and San Antonio are so close.

Ok, In San Marcos beside the University there is a great restaurant called "Palmer's" great dinning, a bit pricy but worthed, very well worthed.

Depending on where u r from and what u r into... but I every time I go to the outlet mall I always try to visit for a few hours "Cabela's" It is an outdoors (fishing & hunting) store. One of my favorite (If not my favorite) places to go when I am arround there. Try the restaurant. You can get Bisson beef among other not so common dishes. Cabela's is in Buda, Tx. It is about a 20 min drive north of San Marcos.

Again, depending on what u r into, Spend a night in Austin, the night life there is unbelievable. U don't have to be in college to enjoy live jazz at its best.

In San Antonio, there are lots of fun stuff to do to. Zoo is good. The river walk is also nice. Depending on the dates you are visiting, check for the amusement parks; Sea World & Fiesta Texas. There is also an African Safari park can't remember where tough. Ok, Also in SA, right beside Fiesta Texas, check out "Las Canteras" mall. It is kinda new. It is pretty cool since it is an outdoors mall but it has the most exclusive brands and stores (a bit too pricy for me) but a nice walk though. lol.

Never been to the Alamo but, I hear it's not a big deal. (I heard Ozzy Osbourne made #1 on it). I don't know if that might interest you but there u go!

As you can see I love that area. I have been going to that part of the State all of my life and I love it.

Good Luck! I hope this helps you enjoy it as much as I do! Source(s): I have travelled arround the US and I can tell you It is one of my favorite parts of the country.

Other Travel Tips
The Riverwalk in San Antonio is nice, too.

There used to be a restaurant in San Marcos that sat on a creek.. Pepper's, I think? Not sure if it's still there, but it was a nice place to visit. I haven't been to SWT (or Texas State as it's known now) in years, but they might have an exhibit or two worth visiting.

If you're old enough and interested, there's probably a vineyard around there somewhere, too.
Old Gruene, TX, is a great historical town, just ouside of New Braunfels, with live music in the bar at Gruene Hall and great food at the Grist Mill.

If you like caves, check out Natural Bridge Caverns.
Water! Float the rivers. Travel on over to New Braunsfels and go to Schlitterbahn! There's a way cool train tunnel with bats - Old Tunnel WMA http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hun...
There really is not that much in San Marcos besides the university. Wimberley is about 15 miles away and that is a great place to visit. Aquarena Springs is interesting, I think it belongs to the university now. New Braunfels is a German community between San Marcos and San Antonio that is a fun place to visit and the food is great. About 30 miles to the north is Austin. The capital is a great building to tour.
I don't know how long you plan on staying there but I would spend more than one day in San Antonio.
I went to school at SWTSU.
