I am visiting San Antonio Texas in February. Are there any good antique shops to see?

Travel Tips
actually yes...

first off, the center for antiques, an antique mall near the airport, is closing for good in january, so that will be out.
but, don't despair. there are several nice shops in town especially on mccullough ave and further south on broadway.
we like the following shops very much:

1) olmos park antiques & art - a great family-owned shop near trinity university. they have like everything imaginable in there...very classy and clean.
2) land of was - another family-owned venture. sophisticated and sometimes esoteric offerings. worth a stop for sure.
3) the lion and the eagle - beautiful chandeliers and lighting especially mixed with some killer estate stuff.
4) carolyn's antiques - a small place, but well worth the stop especially if you like estate jewelry and decorative arts.
5) the cottage - a neat little antique shop set in a home-like setting. a nice mixture of container and estate finds set this shop above the norm.
6) alamo antique mall - a downtown spot with loads of collectibles from a diverse group of dealers.
7) ironside mall - ditto. another group type shop with a broad range of offerings from the funky to the fun.
8) back alley - kind of old fashioned, but still a nice offering of antiques especially if you like primitives, oak and country.
9) main place - a rather traditional and attractive place with some diverse offerings.
10) vogt auction gallery - not an antique store per se, but a local weekly auction house. don't expect super high quality, but there are some affordable & practical container pieces that come up from time to time. a lot of the local dealers seem to shop here to purchase "filler" items for their shops.

you also ought to cruise the hildebrand ave. & san pedro ave area - it's a local area where you will find some of the lower-end more affordable antiques in town. but, don't let that keep you away. once in a while, we find a marvelous item or two that pops up in one of those shops.

good luck and enjoy your visit! happy shopping.

I recommend antique shopping in Castroville Texas on Hwy 90 about 25 miles from San Antonio.
