Travel Info Are there any hip, funky, artsy areas to live/dine/hang in san antonio? (please, NOT the Mercado!)? Travel Tips Definitly the Blue Star art district. Its off of Alamo. Every first Friday they have a big art festival. There are live street musicians, art exhibits, street vendors. Its a lot of fun. Even on weekends other than First Friday there are some great bars. There is a micro brewery with some nice speciality brews. Its not far from the King William historic district. Others i know a few places to hang out is The Cove-off of Cypress and San Pedro they usually have bands playin and good food Sam's Burger Joint-By the Pearl Brewery A great place to hear music and eat but i do agree w/ the first guy you should check out first friday and other stuff...its really fun =) Please. The entire city is one of the best hang outs anywhere. There is a new mall of sorts on the north side out by the airport called The Quarry. There's the historical district.....blue starr district.....the riverwalk has some really cool places. And what, by the way, is wrong with the mercado?! It's a great place too. Try Josephine's, and Rosarita's on Alamo. used to live in San Antonio Haha..The Mercado...like I tell people coming down...it's an actual Mexican market place!!! Anyways, yeah, I would suggest the King William/Blue Star Arts area too. I like hangin out at Azuca every once in awhile. I also hear good things about the old Austin Hwy corridor these days but I've never checked it out. The town is alittle more conservative than its funky neighbor to the north Austin. Try heading out there for a truly eclectic scene. www.southtown.net My life in SA I would suggest the San Antonio Museum of Art 200 W. Jones(Near Broadway). The place used to be a brewery at the turn of the century. Or the Institute of Texan Cultures. This museum is run by the University of Texas @San Antonio and they have artifacts of all the different cultures who have come to live (or lived) in the region we now call Texas. |
