Information about Alamo? |
Travel Info Where and why did it happen? Travel Tips The Alamo was a mission situated in what is now San Antonio, Texas U S A-----it was the site of a very heroic stand made by a small group of people against an enormous force of Mexican infantry in a battle for Texas independence from the government of Mexico !! Reasons for this battle include the very harsh treatment of settlers in the area that is now the state of Texas by the government of Mexico when they had jurisdiction here and repeated attempts at finding better treatment of the people lead to more and more unrest until the combined citizenry of the area decided to revolt and throw off their oppressers through revolution for independence !! Even though the battle of the Alamo was lost to the forces of Mexico under the command of Gen Santa Ana --- the small band of pioneers, settlers, and adventurers gave one devil of a fight and cost the Mexican forces major losses in taking the small mission fortress !! A short time after this fight--- Santa Ana lost most of his troops and the war to much more superior forces and the battle for Texas independence was won !! Many claim to this day that it was the heroic efforts of the people at the Alamo and the losses they inflicted upon Santa Ana's forces that weakened them to the point that they were much easier to defeat in the later battle that brought victory for the settlers and the people fighting for Texas independence !!! Source(s): Life long Texan and mighty proud of it !!! Don't Mess With Texas !!! Hookem Horns !! Other Travel Tips It happened in San Antonio, Texas. The Texans declared it's Independence from Mexico in which some skirmishes already happened. But the Texans were greatly outnumbered and didn't sum up much of a fighting force to really mount an all out fight with the Mexican army. So the Alamo's 183 defenders held the fort down there at the old Spanish mission to buy time for Sam Houston to build a good army. Although every defender of the Alamo was killed it bought enough time for the Texans to rally a sizable force under Sam Houston who eventually defeated his rival Santa Ana. You need to do your own research for your school papers. The 2 answers gave you a good start, now you need to take that and research it.
