I heard it's tough!! :( i'd love love love alot of details about what it takes on being accepted. thank you! Travel Tips i live in Austin. I am not sure about the acedemics, but as for Austin, let me just say the people are certainly not hillbillies, although we do have them, the majority of the people are not. All my expieriences have been great, as have those of most of the people i know. Austin is by far the most liberal big city in Texas, and its unoficial slogan is "Keep Austin Wierd," weather- varries. we can have some nasty storms, but nothing catostrophic. it gets verry hot in the summer, usually with highs in the 90s to 100s. in the winter we get our share of freezes, but rarely snow. we have a great live music scene as 6th street can be a lot of fun, any college student should be able to find ways to have a good time here. All in all it's a great city, and i hope you see your dream fulfilled Others You have to be in the top 10% of your class. You also have to take many undergrad courses like English and Math in high school and clep out or go to a Junior college for those courses. You must be of the elite academically gifted. Austin is a political and intellectual city (alot of computer companies and of course a major college). There aren't hillbillies (well, there are hicks whereever you go. My fiance' is from the Richmond Virginia area and I met quite a few "hicks" in the country area over there, but that's a totally different discussion.) They refer to the uneducated in Texas as rednecks. Austin is equivalent to the "Seattle" of Texas. So, that gives you a good idea. UT Austin is a great school but it is hard to get into, and you need to be nearly a professional dancer to become a cheerleader. However, you won't know if you can make it until you give it a try - http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/transfer/a... As far as Austin goes, it's wonderful and most residents would consider you a hillbilly for asking if they are hillbillies. It is the state capitol of Texas and the hills are small compare to Virginia - http://www.austintexas.org/ Hope these websites help and good luck! Class of 74 |
