Travel Info Hey everyone! I am going to del rio, texas in july on a mission trip. what is it like there? we are going ot be really close to the mexico border. is it going to be extremely hot? {well i know it will be hot but will it be untolerably hot?} if you could give me any helpful info about del rio it would be extremely helpful thank you so much in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God Bless! much love JP Travel Tips You're right, it's hot, especially in July.. Others It depends on where you are coming from. If you vacation in Death Valley, it won't be too bad. If you've lived your life in Minnesota...well...good luck. You can expect temps to be in the 90's most of the time. I've only been there once. I took my mother to Brackettville to see Alamo Village where they filmed the John Wayne version of the Alamo. My only excitement was watching her get excited. We spent the night in Del Rio, took a brief detour across the border and headed home. It was extremely dusty while we were there. Winds were gusting the whole time, and with the heat and sandy dirt, everything just seemed dirty. I also don't recommend crossing the border in Del Rio unless you know where you are going or have someone to escort you. Even though I am not well travelled (internationally), I don't consider myself a clod. I found the brief excursion a little unnerving and could not wait to get back across the border. I have since been told that Laredo is a much better and safer place to visit. Also, be prepared to focus on your mission work since there is little else to do there. Don't get me wrong...it has all the necessities, but it is a long way to the nearest "city" and doesn't offer much in the way of recreation. it is hot. and there is nothing else to do there. its a small town. the good thing is they have a walmart but that is it. sorry for the disappointment. I have family in Del Rio, and go there ocasionally. During July, it can get very hot, with temperatures above 100. But like its been said, don't go into Mexico unless you have someone with you that know where they're going. There really isn't much to do there for fun, the only fun thing to do there is to when I go along with my cousins to the park. They do have a mall, but there aren't really any good stores, except for JC Penny. And although I like the fact that they have a Wal-Mart, it is always overcrowded and hard to get around. So if you ever have to go the store go to HEB. The nearest metro area is San Antonio, which is about 2 hours away, so have all the fun you want while in SA. Del Rio does have a bowling alley, so if you like bowling you'll have something fun to do. |
