Moving to SW San Antonio?

Travel Info
My new job will be covering a regional area in SA and south of SA. Living SW of San Antonio would be best. Preferably in one of the small towns. Any opinions on living in this area?

Travel Tips
Well, there is a tremendous amount of new development in southern Bexar County because of the new Toyota plant and the future Texas A&M campus. Slightly around the dial, western Bexar County is expected to add about 60000 new residents. Many are looking to Castroville (west of town on Hwy 90) and then there is LaCoste, Dilly and several other towns along IH-35 south.

My suggestion would be to get a good handle on your territory and where you'll spend most of your time. Then look for something nearby. You'll find a wide range of prices and quality. Just be patient.

I could not disagree with Doc's answer (below) more! I think his tag line may explain a lot about Doc's outlook. Neither Texas nor California are "lost."
I've lived in SA for more than 50 years and have lived in the heart of the Westside for 20+ years and have never seen a drive-by. You see them on the news for a reason--they are news, not normal events.
As for drivers--this is a city of 1.3 million and they are just as bad (or as good) as any other major city. Some of them are terrible, but guess what, they could just as easily run into you in some other city in some other state.
Frankly, San Antonio is a beautiful city with a diverse culture that works. Welcome, to a great city with 200+ years of experience that is working hard to stay that way.
Others
The first answer is a very good answer, but Castroville is very expensive now and so is it getting expensive around the Toyota Plant, but I would make two suggestions the First is Pleasanton, and Poteet, both are just across the county line and there fore have much lower taxes, they are convenient to the city and yet you are living with the house next door far enough away to give you a lot of privacy. All of South Texas is multicultural. You will find that in either of these towns that the people are very friendly and will go out of their way to assist you. I heard some one say one time that these towns only take care of those that are from there. Poteet had one mayor that was born and raised in N.Y.,N.Y. and everyone knew him and liked him. so that doesn't hold water. I was a mailman in Poteet for 17 1/2 years and would have moved there if I could have a situation with a family member prevented us from moving there. I am retired now but go out there still to see friends that I have had for many years, these two towns get my thumbs up. Welcome to Texas
Stay to the North.I just returned from S.A. had not seen it in 22 years. Its awful, afraid the whole time by drive by shooting, road rage drivers with guns. I will never go back.
