Travel Info Does anyone know what happened in San Antonio,Tx. with the Barnacle Bill's Seafood Restaurants? Travel Tips Some one just said poor employees and I agree, but it does bring the question to mind. If they had told the employees before like two weeks ago how many would have stayed until the last day? I will answer for you,......NONE. You folks that aren't from here may not know what or who am I talking about but all of the locals do. Barnacle Bill's not part of Bill Miller's but lived in the same house with him. I have been told that an number of the employees have been sent to Bill Miller's to apply there. I guess if it can happen to a national chain then it can happen to a local change, Do the names like Carl's Jr, Kogers, Albertsons, K-mart, Crystal Burgers, Builder's Square, Handy Dan, this list could go on and on. BUT Barnacle Bill's had really good seafood and I think that only one in our town that is in the same ball park is Sea Island, I am sorry to see it go. Maybe we will get lucky and some one will buy it and reopen it under new ownership and management. Note; To leosxpst, There could be dozens of reasons for them to have pulled the plug, having been in business once upon a time not all that glitters is gold. The very nature of the type of business that they are (were) has a super large turn over not only of management but of all employees. This is also true for retail, convenience stores, gas stations, and non craft workers. As for money, the only reason to be in business is to make money, there is an old expression, "No ticky no shirt." That pretty well applies to all business. Don't you think that it is a little disingenuous to insinuate that they only hire minorities? My goodness, what or who do you think that they are going to hire in a city that is 65% Mexican American? Further if you were to check you would mostly (conjecture on my part) likely find that a greater amount of people that were hired were High School drop outs, and very few with more than a high school diploma. Others I don't know, but on I read on the Ksat.com website that they just closed down today. The windows were boarded up and they closed. I am very curious to find out what went wrong with this restaurant. http://www.ksat.com/news/13319400/detail... No one from the CEO offices have called the media to tell what happened. That is weird and I feel sorry for those employees. No one even warned them, that's not right. They are now out looking for work today! OMG! I just heard about this! I don't watch the news so I had no idea. That's so random and crazy!! The only other time I saw this happen before it was (queue the Beatles) "The TAX MAN oh yeah the TAX MAN". I'm not quite sure what happened, but they had planned on opening up more stores in TX and they were due to open one store in July, over on the west side. I'm sure it has something to do with the way they treat thier employees or maybe the fact that they were running out of management. The minute they would get a manager in, another 2 would quit. Last time I checked, they didn't even have enough managers to run the stores. They all just walked out or gave notice. The director of operations ( Joe Rodriguez) was always driving back and forth to each one of the stores to make sure they were running smoothly. As you can see, they weren't. Or maybe it had something to do with Paul not listening to Jeff when he had wanted to do something different with the company. Paul wouldn't listen to anything anyone had to say unless is was Joe Rodriguez and Joe definitely has "my way or no way" attitude. For some reason he thought working at BB's was the best place to work. The only concern Paul, Jeff, Joe and Tim had was how much money they could make. The welfare and morale of the company was never an issue to them, just money. Maybe thier selfish ways finally caught up to them. Any company that has to advertise employment on a reciept is in trouble. I wouldn't be suprised if somebody finally turned them in for the way they treat the employees. They looked for the minorites needing a job. They would hire them and pay them the least because they know they need a job and they will work for whatever pay and under any condtions. NOTE TO FFPERKI: Do you think I would get on here saying things about a company if I didn't know first hand. Please tell me how many times you spoke with one of the GM's about the schedule and how to make more money for my (manager) pay check. I understand the point of a business is to make money. I mean that's pretty obvious, but the way they make the money is what I'm talking about. I know what I'm talking about. I've had these conversations. Why do you think the starting pay rate was different for all of the locations? White folk over on Dazavala won't work for $6.00, but the minorities over on Walzem will. Many of the people working there were going to college and just because you don't have a high school diploma doesn't mean you can't find any other job or that you are only as smart as the frys that you serve. Paul being a D***, I believe it. I know that's how he is and if you ever sat down in a meeting with him or ever got a chance to read his emails, You'd know what I'm talking about. Maybe they were polite to you, but what they wrote about other's in emails is a different story. Some GM's shared that with everyone, but I don't know why it just pissed them off. They knew they were closing down, the managers knew, but not the regular employees. That's how they do the regular employees. That's what I'm talking about when it comes to them. It's all about them, not the people who make them or their business. The Vance's didn't know what they were doing, that's why they hired Mr. Rodriguez. Fabuola made all the rules to the company and then screwed up things. At least that's what the other managers and Mr. R said. The last time I saw this happen to a food place was when I was a teenager. My bro in law was a mgr at a Rallys (burger place). One morning, they just got to work to find the place closed down. It was the IRS!!!!!!! pay to much for bad food. or bad fish. |
