I'm traveling to San Antonio Texas in a month where should I go?

Travel Info
I would like to visit historical sites, country fairs, things that are not on the beaten path, but still rich in culture. I have already seen the Alamo (and will go back) and I've visited the River walk and done the boat tour, Also I would like to go where the locals go for fun and dancing. I don't want another vacation where I do the same things on vacation that I do at home. No malls or movie theaters, I would like a unique experiance. Any ideas out there?

Travel Tips
How about a visit to the Natural Bridge caverns and Natural Bridge Wildlife Park which are about 20 minutes north of San Antonio. They were both amazing and are a great way to kill an afternoon. I know that these are both still touristy attractions but are not really the norm. If you have never been on a cavern tour before this is a must, and even if you have been to others this one is worth the visit. The Wildlife park is kind of unique in that it is a very large drive through safaria with many many species of animals, I am only aware of a couple others like it in the US.

Another unique thing that we did was go to a drive in movie a couple of times, I know you said no movie theatres, but how about a drive-in movie. Many people nowadays have never been to a drive-in movie and everyone thinks they are all closed but many are still in operation including one in San Antonio.

Here's a great website:

San Antonio has a wealth of things to do some a little bit pricey and others very cheap if not free. Alamo, Museums, zoo, missions trail, Texas cultural center, Sea World, Six Flags, The breweries, Ripley's believe it or not, river walk, tower of the Americas, there are also local lakes, Medina, Canyon, LBJ, McQueeney. Missions base ball, I heard a man one time make fun of a farm club team but the truth is some of the most enjoyable games I have ever seen have been with a farm club, it seems they try harder. There are always festivals going on around here so it is impossible to say what as a person would need to exactly and then most of us wouldn't be able to answer until a week of so before the event but they are very frequent from home comings to sports men fairs and there is also frequent shows here like the sport man's show or Home show etc.
I would go to the Japanesse Gardens. They were originally called the Chinese Gardens, but the name was changed during a time of conflict in our country. They have beautiful sculpure benches that look like petrified wood. Admission is free. If I was taking children I would also go to the Witte Museum/HEB Treehouse. How about visiting surrounding towns such as New Braunfels and San Marcos. New Braunfels is a historic old German town with river tubing, and San Marcos is a college town with a neat downtown section full of little hippie shops and a dollar movie. Good Luck!
Go to New Braunfels for a tube float down the Guadalupe or Comal river..You can float all day..Then visit the town of Gruene, historical town..The have the oldest dance hall around..John Travolta did the movie Michael there..Visit the Gristmill for some rustic unique dining..Visit the shops...Just look up New Braunfels for info..Visit the Capitol building in Austin..Interesting tour. Go to "Cowboys dance Hall"off the 35 in San Antonio and ride their Mechanical Bull. Luling has their Watermelon Thump during that month..Carnival activities and lots of melons. Visit Lukenbach, and see where willie nelson and a few others started..If you blink you pass it.In the hill country..Fredricksberg, except you wouldnt like it for the shoppping..Wine country and wineries to visit. Just see whats out there on the web. Although you would like the float.
The Spanish Governor's Palace, Cowboy Dance Hall, Gruene Dance Hall. There are so many things to do in San Antonio, but I encourage you to explore the Hill Country. A trip to Boerne or Fredericksburg is key. Don't forget Luckenbach!!

A really good restaurant in SA is Scenic Loop Cafe, which is owned by George Strait. Go 1-10W, get off at exit 551 (Boerne Stage Rd./Leon Springs). Bear left on the frontage and turn left at the right. You'll be on Boerne Stage Road. Stay on that road until you get to Scenic Loop. On your right will be the restaurant. Prices there run mid-range. I suggest the Avocado Chicken. Enjoy!
Go to the site as the first answer advised and decide which places you want to go.Make out a plan where you would like to start and end, find out where places are located and how far from each other so that you won't waste a lot of time driving around(check open/close times too).A lot of things are fairly close in downtown that you park somewhere and take a trolley to several of the places.Other places you may have to drive but its worth the drive.I know there is a new museum in the market square area downtown, that's something new to see.Have fun and enjoy.
