Which San Diego neighborhood is best for 26 y.o. guy to meet smart, single women?

Travel Info
I am moving to San Diego soon, I think I have narrowed my choices to the pacific beach/ocean beach area or the downtown area or somewhere nearby. I am 26 years old, male, college educated, which of these areas do you think would be a better match? PB area sounds cool but I worry I might be getting a little too old for the "college aged" crowd. I don't want to be seen as some kind of old dude. Would downtown then be better fit for a mature 26 y.o. professional? I still like to party and drink socially. Also, this may sound kind of weak, but which area would you say has a more "intellectual climate" ? I'm not talking about pseudo-intellectual liberalism, just intelligent people that enjoy the arts, philosophy, politics, stuff like that. I'd really like to be somewhere I can meet people that have similar interests to myself. So would that be the PB area, downtown area, or somewhere else perhaps?? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Travel Tips
Are you thinking apartments/townhomes or buying a traditional home? That makes a difference in the neighborhoods I would reccomend. If I was a single guy with what you have listed I would avoid the PB, MB, OB area. Also if you are interested in women, you wont want Hillcrest near downtown. There are 4 places I would reccomend-
For residential neighborhoods try near Old Town and then I would look at Point Loma
The best townhome / apartment living is North University City, known as "The Golden Triangle," and then in Mission Valley. Source(s): http://www.homesmissionvalley.com/index....

Other Travel Tips
Definitely not PB. PB is about drinking and partying, and nothing else. Dowtown would be ok, also you might want to consider La Jolla, depending on your income. LJ can be kind of pricey, but it is more of an upscale area, and it's close to PB, so you can have the nice posh iving area, then you're just a short distance if you want to party occasionally.

I live in Mission Valley which is nice because I'm pretty much in the center of San Diego. There isn't much to do other than shopping though.
I wouldn't completely rule out PB b/c it is farily diverse and pkenty of people your age there too, but downtown or hillcrest might be a better fit. Hillcrest is San Diego's "gay neighborhood" so I'm not sure if you would want to live there. Ocean Beach is a bunch of tatooed bikers on meth and burnouts so I doubt that would fit you.
YOU'RE KILLIN' ME DUDE!!!! I'm sitting here laughing my *** off! So you don't want to been seen as some "old" 26 years dude?!? GIMME A BREAK!!! MY STOMACH HURTS FROM LAUGHIN' SO MUCH!! Like Dude----you're 26 goin' on 2!!! LOL!!! I've got to get serious now, inbetween wiping the tears off my face!! Maybe you could do a stand-up routine in one of the downtown comedy clubs! Just mention your age and then tell the folks you're "REALLY MATURE" and watch 'em fall out of their chairs from hysterical laughter!!! NO REALLY!!!
Oh God....I should have invested stock in KLEENEX!!! The reason why I'm laughin' is 'cause I was born and raised all over the So. Cal. area, and I've never heard anything SO RIDICULOUS! Believe it or not, age really isn't the most pressing issue to So. Ca. residents. Try ELECTRICITY & the ROLLING BLACKOUTS! Try the "PARKING LOTS" that we used to call "Freeways". Try getting past the Statium, on the "parking lot", on game day. Try the freakin' 4 hours it takes to travel, what should have taken 30 MIN.,on a holiday, like Thanksgiving weekend. Try findin' a parking space at the mall (ANY MALL) on a holiday weekend and I guarantee that you'd have better luck landing AIR FORCE 1 on a matchbook cover, dude!! No offense dude, but nobody gives a **** how old the person in the water, next to you on the surfboard, is! Jesus! If you act like that, they'll (So. Cals) laugh your pretentious, snotty little *** all the way back to where you're from! How DARE you insinuate that CA intellectuals only gather/live in certain areas! You remind me of that nerdy, pompous, arrogant geek freak on the "Fresh Prince of Bel Air". With a stuck-up attitude like you've got, you can plan on having 0 friends in So. Cal.! Did you know that the "beach bum" you'll no doubt see, probably has a freakin' Harvard Law Degree??!!?? That's right, dude! And I want you to know something else ---- It just so happens that So. Cal. residents/natives are like TOTALLY the CHILLEST, like the SIC-EST, most AWESOME FREAKIN' HUMAN BEINGS surfin' the planet!! Yea Baby!! Leave it to me, "CaliModel" to set this "child" straight! CALIFORNIANS ROCK & RULE!!! Yea, Baby!! LOL!!!
Hi,
Steer clear of PB!!! If you are looking to get away from the "college aged" fratty-ratty type crowd, then don't move to PB. After reading your post, I would suggest the following areas:

1.Birdrock/Windansea area of La Jolla--you are still close to the beach, but you will find more young professionals your age. People always say that La Jolla is more expensive than PB, but you can find some good apts. here for the same prices you would see in PB.

2.Normal Heights/Kensington--a lot of really cool coffee shops/music venues, restaurants, book stores, etc. Very central location, inland but still close to Downtown, Mission Valley, the beaches, etc

3. Downtown or Little Italy--both of these areas are young and hip. These neighborhoods are ideal if you like the idea of being able to walk to bars and restaurants.

I guess it depends on where you will be working too. If you are working up north, like in Carlsbad, you might want to check out Carlsbad, Encinitas or Cardiff. The traffic can be bad!
