It does NOT have any seawater in it. Its creation began in 1905 when heavy rainfall and snowmelt caused the Colorado River to swell and breach an Imperial Valley dike. It took too years to stop the flooding. As the surface is 200' below sea level, there is no drainage from the "sea." Evaporation is countered by runoff from surrounding irrigated farming communities.
