I'm looking for a good but inexpensive hotel in the San Diego area. Any recommendations?

Travel Info
Please note there will be seven of us on this trip, and we are on a tight budget.

Travel Tips
My suggestion for a moderately priced, but decent Motel would be the Old Town Inn located on Pacific Coast Highway just south of the Old Town section of San Diego. Try to get a room in their newer section; as the original rooms are older and somewhat outdated. Only about 4 miles from the Airport, 3 miles to the Zoo and about 6-7 miles to the beach. Rooms are normally under $75 a night and are well kept. Source(s): Stayed here 4 times since 2001.

Other Travel Tips
Motel 6 Motel Circle is reasonable about 50.00 a night.. must drive to eat as there is no food on sight..rooms are clean..near sea world ,zoo and airport cruise terminal
stayed there in jan 07
Regardless of your budget, it's going to be expensive in San Diego, I know I live here. If you stay by the beach it will be the most expensive. The farther inland you go the cheaper it will be.

Some of my fav hangouts...
Old Town Mexican Cafe (the best tortillas you'll ever eat!)
Downtown Gas Lamp District (Party every Fri, Sat & Sun!)
TJ (Mexico) Take the trolley down to the border and walk across. Take a cab to Avenida Revoluci贸n and party for cheap!

The Welcome Inn
1550 Washington St / Normal Street
San Diego, CA 92103

Affordable and conveniently located outside "Hotel Circle" which are the pricier hotel chains. 5 minutes north of Downtown this is Hotel is Normal Heights near a trendy community called "HILLCREST" an artsy, hip "open" community. Off the most beautiful freeway in the world The 163 freeway which passes thru world-renowned San Diego Zoo. While in Hillcrest there have breakfast at "THE HASH HOUSE" and have lunch at "THE CITY DELI" or any good eat nearby (there are so many hot spots) and dinner at so many great places downtown at the Gaslamp Quarter on 5th Avenue and sorrounding streets. Do some shopping at Horton Plaza and definitely take a stroll at the hidden seaport south of The Gaslamp called SEAPORT VILLAGE for an evening romantic stroll. If you are seven girls visit "Fashion Valley Center" (163 north exit Friars) for an upscale outdoor shopping extravaganza. Visit these streets: University Avenue, Broadway Blvd., 5th Avenue, Park Blvd., El Cajon Blvd., La Jolla Village Drive, Washington Blvd, The Coronado Bridge, Seaworld Drive, Grand Ave, PCH in Pacific Beach and Mission Beach and don't forget Mission Bay park at the beach near Mission Bay and Fiesta Island find out more coll hot spots at
