Is the Sports Arena Blvd area bad? |
Travel Info What is the area around Sports Arena Blvd like near the Sports Arena? I am planning on staying at the Holiday Inn there on a trip and would like to know if it is a bad neighborhood or not. Travel Tips It's not too bad. It's a mix of mauls and big stores, some condo complexes. You do need a car or cab fare. It is not too far from the airport, the harbor, Ocean Beach and scenic Pt. Loma. It is not at all like a big cities bad neighborhood. There are decent restaurants and straight clubs to walk to. Old Town San Diego is close and just across the river is Sea World. Others not... it's actually a nice area... Good luck ! Happy Tuesday ! It's not a bad area but it's not that nice of an area either. It's mostly just strip malls and strip clubs. There aren't any homes in the area so strip clubs are allowed and there are plenty. Then the rest of it is just strip malls with chain stores and restuarants. Target, Big 5, Home Depot, Chili's, Black Angus, and those types of stores. There are also a fair amount of hotels/motels in the area. It's not the funnest place to hang out, unless you into the strip clubs. Downtown, Mission Beach, Old Town, Pacific Beach, and Mission Valley are all pretty close by and have more attractions. But if you are staying in the Sports Arena area and like bbq, go to Phil's BBQ, they just opened a new restaurant on Sports Arena Blvd and it is the best bbq in San Diego and is very popular. The Holiday Inn on Sports Arena Blvd is actually quite nice, for a Holiday Inn. There are plenty of places to eat around the hotel, and the area is quite safe. The area has changed a lot in the past 15 years (I'm a native). Back in the 80's and earlier, it was a rough area and a haven for violence, hookers, and drugs. Today, it's really cleaned up. There still are a few strip clubs, but they are on the fringe of the area and don't pose a problem with riff-raff. Enjoy your trip to San Diego. Good Area. Not like La Jolla or anything, but still a cool place. You're close to Pt. Loma and Ocean Beach. Have fun. AJ It is okay, but not the greatest choice for single woman traveling alone. The Body Shop and Les Girls strip clubs are there. Read the reviews for the Holiday Inn on a travel website like expedia or travelocity. |
