Should I rent a car for San Diego?!?

Travel Info
A friend and I are going to San Diego in two weeks, and Im wondering if we should rent a car. I know that there is a transit system but we are planning on going to and from La Jolla and other outskirts of the city. Should we?! Its not too costly, plus we arnt sure how long we will be at each spot and not sure we are going to want a taxi to stay and wait for us. Any ideas?! Is it too crazy for out of state drivers to be driving around?!

Travel Tips
It's easy to navigate in San Diego. There is lots of traffic during rush hours on the freeways. Avoid those times. I think you do need a rental car. San Diego is very spread out into different smaller communities, which makes it seem much smaller than it really is.

San Diego is beautiful with lots of things to do. Enjoy your trip! Source(s): http://www.sandiego-romantics.com...

Other Travel Tips
You can rent a car, but the bus system in that area is tops. I lived there for 7 years and had no trouble getting around with the busses there. Be sure to check out the zoo and Balboa Park!
i would suggest renting a car. we do have a trolley system but depending on where you're going, it's safer taking your own transportation. a taxi ride to/from la jolla to downtown will cost you some $$$.
You should rent a car. The traffic is busy, but not too scarey if you are careful. The public transit system is a pain and not always on time. If you can afford it you will be very happy you got the car.
Absolutely rent a car. The transit system is awful, and San Diego is far too spread out to be without reliable transportation, especially if you're not sure how long you will be at each spot.

Traffic can be a problem (as it can anywhere), but I'm not in a position to say that it's less or more than in any other major city. Plenty of drivers are from out-of-state (in fact, half the people I met there moved in from out-of-state in the last five years), so I wouldn't worry so much about it.

I'd also be aware that it will be VERY crowded outdoors, as both SDSU and UCSD have spring break the last week of March. Just so you know, but you might miss them.
