How often do you see lizards, geckos and mice in San Diego? |
Travel Info At places such as on the streets, in parks, at the pool, on the beach, in your home etc. Travel Tips Lizards are very common in San Diego or more broadly San Diego County. There are many different species of lizards in San Diego ranging from the coast horned lizard(horny toad), Western Fence lizard, the southern alligator lizard, western skink with its wonderful blue tail, and the most common of all the Sagebrush Lizard(known to locals as the blue belly). On any given day I see about 10 to 15 blue bellys. As for mice they are very common, there are mice from other parts of the world that have adapted to san diego but there are also native species such as the deer mouse.Geckos are seldom seen in San Diego but they can occasionally be seen in the summer months in the inland areas. The only Gecko native to California is the Western Banded gecko and is the most northern living species in the gecko family. The subspecies of the gecko found in San Diego is Coleonyx Variegatus Abbotti. Hope this helps :) Source(s): My self and National Audobon Society: Field Guide To California. Other Travel Tips As a San Diego resident of the last 27 years, I have to say that geckos are quite rare. I can't ever remember seeing one in the wild. Lizards? All the time. Alligator lizards are less frequent, but your regular, timid, ordinary lizard is a common sight. Especially if you plan to do any hiking or other outdoor activity in the spring or summer. Mice? Not seen out in the open so much. Squirrels, sure. But mice tend to hide and unless you have the eyes of a hawk, you probably aren't going to notice many. lots but only on parks and open wild areas |
