Travel Tips
IMHO, with 50 years of experience, your best choices follow:

http://www.holinnbayside.com/
http://www.bestwestern-bluesea.com/... Source(s): stayed at each many times - even tho a local
Other Travel Tips
There are several on Hotel Circle that aren't real expensive...Point Loma is a nice area with rates not out of this world. Old Town is nice, but may be a little pricey.
Best Western Hacienda Suites in Old Town often has some good rates. You can enjoy a margarita and walk back to your hotel.

The DoubleTree and DoubleTree Club in Mission Valley often have great deals as well.

For hotels right on the beach check out these recommendations: http://www.sandiego-romantics.com/san-di...

When you make reservations, check out the online sites such as hotels.com and tripadvisor.com. Then check the websites of hotels you are considering. Last of all, call the hotel direct. Let them know you are looking for a good deal. Tell them all of the discounts you qualify for and see what they can offer you.
