Are the illegal immigrants a problem in San Diego and are the wages low?

Travel Info
I'm a single mom (professional and educated) with 2 children and I'm trying to decide between San diego and Sacramento. Which one and why?

Travel Tips
The wages here in San Diego are very good. It obviously depends on your field as to how much you can get paid, but the pay averages here are high.

The illegal immigrants are not a "problem." Yes, there are many who live here. But they do not cause any more problems than punk teenage white kids! Haha. And actually, many of them are kind and nice, and do not want to get in anyone's way or hurt anybody. :-)

One of the big drawbacks of SD, though, is the terrible traffic. Depending on where you will live and work, you will want to consider the traffic situation of your route to work. Sometimes it can be pretty gnarly.

But other than that, SD is the best!!! :-D But maybe I'm just partial. Haha.

i would go to sacramento it is cheaper there
I live in San Diego (born and raised), but I lived in Sacramento for 5 years, also. I would say San Diego, hands down if you can afford it.

Sacramento is a lot colder in Winter, and a lot hotter in the Summer. There's also not a lot to do there.

San Diego is much more temperate, with a lot more activities, both indoor and outdoor. We have the best weather in the world down here, we're right on the beach, and only 2 hours from skiing in the Winter.

Also, the crime rate in San Diego is a LOT lower than Sacramento.

I could go on, but I don't want to ramble!
Illegal immigrants aren't a problem here, as least from my experiance, which is kind of surprising considering our location obviously. Illegal immigration just doesn't seem to be a big issue for San Diegans; maybe it's b/c we're used to immigrants and b/c we border Mexico or whatever, but race relations seem to be fine here. SD is a very safe city, one of the safest big cities in the country and crime so far this year has been down almost 10%.

The pay is lower than the SF Bay Area and LA/Orange County but probably higher than Sacramento. Of course homes are more expensive here than Sac but still cheaper than LA/OC and the Bay Area. I think you get a much better deal here than in LA or the Bay Area b/c you can still get a house in a good location, near the beach or overlooking a canyon for less than a comparable home elsewhere in coastal CA.

SD beats Sacramento in pretty much every category except cost of homes. If you want a big sprawling home on a large lot then Sac is better. But if you don't mind a smaller home on a smaller lot but in a much better setting then SD is definately the way to go.
