Travel Tips
Best places for family settings...
BELMONT PARK-in Mission beach so you have the beach, and an amusement park. There is a big roller coaster along with other carnival style rides and games. Plenty of easy places to eat and they also have bike rentals just in case!
BALBOA PARK-houses the zoo so already! Has over a dozen awesome museums. Has several free musueums also. Plenty of playgrounds. Free botanical gardens. Japanese friendship garden, train ride, carousel,...you could spend a few days there!(they sell a pass for entrance to all museums also)
OLD TOWN-this is a great place for dinner. Not too many kids at night in case the adults want to sneak away! But in the daytime its good family fun. It is a state historic park so the docents dress up in period costume. There are park rangers on horses and almost every building is a museum in some way. Candle making, taffy pulling, and other demonstrations in specific shops.
SCRIPPS BIRCH AQUARIUM-located in La Jolla-very beautiful rich neighborhood also right near the beach. Has a hands on kids pool where they can touch everything inside.

I would also check online about purchasing a San Diego City Pass (if y ou will be visiting theme parks). I know the zoo's website also sells them. You can go to the zoo, wild animal park, seaworld, disney, legoland and more for a bargain deal.
Just a few suggestions! Have fun!

San Diego is fabulous! It is beautiful and very casual. Check out Lego Land and Sea World. Old Town is great at night and there's a pretty nice outlet mall just a short drive away.

These days you may have to have your passports to get across the border and back but Tiajuana is close and exciting

I always like to view other's trips before making plans. Check out Yahoo - Trip Planners. I added link to one that looked really well planned out and fun.

Gotta check out the Children's Pool at La Jolla. It used to be an area set aside for kids to go swimming safely in the ocean, but now is a beach that Seals and Sea Lions ocme up and rest on- you can get within feet of these awesome creatures- walk a little breakwater out into the ocean and just enjoy the views!

Its great, and it's free!!
dont forget the tide pools at ocean beach and the point loma lighthouse. check out old town, grab some lunch at the old town mexican cafe across the street from the oldest haunted cemetary in southern california...(not as creepy as it sounds) visit the mission, presidio and mission de acala. both are awesome if you're a history buff. take your family to a padres game! the new park is amazing, five bucks for seats on the grass....there's even a park and a mini baseball diamond for kids. it's awesome.

oh and dont' forget to stroll through seaport village off harbor drive and also the gaslamp quarter downtown. beautiful shops, restaurants etc...
del mar fair is coming up next onth i think XD
My kids love Legoland (of course!), but otherwise-things that they have loved include....Seaport Village, watching a Padres game at Petco Park, taking a watertaxi to Coronado Island to get ice cream or dinner, Balboa Park's dog park, the old globe theater, corvette diner in hillcrest, flying a kite on Mission Bay, etc.....Have Fun!!
