Too long. Take the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner out of Santa Ana to San Diego. It's not exactly France's TGV but it will bypass the jam-packed 405 freeway and get you there in under two hours.

I agree. The train is the way to go. It costs $18 dollars to get from the Irvine stop to Old Town San Diego. Super cheap and Super Fast. I agree, much better than the bus.
