San Francisco to Camp Pendleton NO CAR? |
Travel Info Alright. This may sound a bit hectic, and I may not be able to pull it off, but bare with me. I'm trying to visit my boyfriend who is currently in SOI at Camp Pendleton. I am coming from San Francisco. WITH NO CAR. I also can not rent a car. I am looking for the most straight forward trip there. Airplane to shuttle. I have gotten terrible advice from a few people, and I want to know exactly what area is the best to book a hotel in. What part of the base is closest to SOI... My boyfriend kind of left me in the dark, as he really can't help me b/c he's in school right now. Any help would be great!! Thanks!!! Travel Tips well the fastest way is to Fly to San Diego then take local transit bus to the Sam Diego train station then board either a Amtrak or Coaster train to Oceanside then take a North county transit bus to Camp Pendleton there is an information booth both at the San Diego train station and Oceanside station or you could fly from San Francisco to Los Angeles then take the Lax-Union station flyway bus to Union station then either Metrolink or Amtrak to Oceanside and then as above ==============================... another way you could also take Amtrak there are two routes from SF to San Diego all Amtrak train leave from Oakland you first would board a bus to Oakland you would board the San Joaquin train to Bakersfield then a bus to Los Angles, then another train to Oceanside or you could take a Amtrak bus (from SF) to either San Luis Obispo or Goleta/Santa Barbara (depending on train connections) and board the surf liner direct to Oceanside good luck Others fly delta and then go greyhound camp on the ground if you have to its fun Forget him I will give you a ride in my pants Amtrak is how I go that way. There is a bus that runs from south from the bay area towards Santa Barbara, and it runs right by Pendleton. Give them a call... Fly into San Diego Intl airport, take a cab, shuttle, or bus route 992 from the airport to the Santa Fe Depot Train Station in Downtown San Diego (it's only about 1-2 miles from the airport), then take the Coaster train or an Amtrak train up to the Downtown Oceanside station. You can take a cab from there to the base or take a bus; there are several North County Transit District (NCTD) buses that go through Camp Pendleton from the Oceanside transit center/train station. I know routes 315, 397, 409, and 395 go through Pendleton. you can check out the Coaster and NCTD bus schedules at either of these two websites: www.sdcommute.com - this site is for all SD County public transit www.gonctd.com - This site is for North County Transit District trains and buses. The best area for a hotel would probably be somwhere in Downtown Oceanside or near the Oceanside Marina; those two area would be closest to the base entrance. If you have any other questions about getting up to Oceanside or whatever feel free to ask and I'll help you as much as i can. |
